Pegi Newton

Artist Statement:

I paint the things and places that I love. Since painting and traveling are two of my favorite pastimes, I never run out of fun and inspiration. Some of my subjects surprise even me, but I am especially drawn to coastal themes and images. Watercolor is my true love, although I also paint in oils and acrylics. I am truly happiest when I am painting a marsh on watercolor paper while sitting in a swamp.

Several years ago Pegi Newton signed up for an oil/acrylic class at Greenville Tec hoping that it would be helpful with craft painting for her church bazaar. It accomplished the immediate goal and was the beginning of a love affair with painting that has steadily grown.

Almost as much as Pegi loves painting, she loves to travel, and attending watercolor workshops has allowed her to go to some pretty fun places including California, Santa Fe, Maine, Scotland, Ireland, Italy and France. She even traveled to Newfoundland as an Artist-in-Residence at Pouch Cove in June 2005.

Pegi has been a member of UVA for many years and has regularly exhibited her watercolors and oil paintings in Art in the Park and the Holiday shows. Pegi has participated in shows at the Blood Connection and Julia Peters for the Monday Night Painters. Pegi is a member of the Artists Guild Gallery of Greenville.
